The NOAA Northwest Fisheries Science Center, a partner of PacFIN, recently released a web based tool to help investigate the economic effects of the West Coast Groundfish Trawl Catch Share Program (IFQ) on communities and vessels. The initial report examines vessel level data and uses data from PacFin as well as from surveys. There are plans for subsequent reports and tools to further explore the data. See their webpage (Link) for further detail and updates.

On Wednesday December 9th, we will be upgrading the Oracle R enterprise engine to the latest version. This version of Oracle R enterprise requires the installation of Oracle R package version 1.4.1 and uses R version 3.1.1. PacFIN staff can help users with database access to set this up on their system.

Oracle R Enterprise allows users to run analyses directly from the database rather than having to extract data and import it to a local version of R. Another benefit to Oracle R enterprise is that calculation take place on the server, thus using the speed, memory and disk space of the server to complete complex calculations.
