On September 15th, 34,000 mt of Pacific whiting are being reallocated from the tribal allocation to commercial non-tribal commercial allocations. The revised allocations are as follows:

  • Catcher/processor:  114,149mt
  • Mothership:  80,575mt
  • Shorebased:  141,007mt
  • Tribal: 30,322 mt

NOAA is proposing a rule to allow vessels in the Pacific whiting midwater trawl sector and vessels in the fixed gear individual fishing quota (IFQ) sector to use electronic monitoring in place of observers. Comments on the proposed rule are being accepted until October 6, 2016.

NMFS is implementing an increase in black rockfish trip limits, a reduction in sablefish trip limits, and a transfer of POP from the scientific research sector to the at-sea mothership sector.
