Location

There are a number of data fields in the PacFIN trawl logbook tables which specify the trawl location. All, except lbk_trip.region, are columns of the lbk_tow table. In an attempt to provide continuity in the available data, some data fields, if not supplied by the data source, are derived from other supplied data fields (e.g. PSMFC area ID from block number).

Location/Position data fields are:

Set_lat: Position at set in degrees North CDFW only started recording lat/long positions in 1997. If lat/long position is not supplied, the position of the center of the reported block is filled in during the load to the PacFIN database.
set_long: Position at set in degrees West (see set_lat)
up_lat: Position at up in degrees North (only CDFW reports up positions, and only since 1997.)
up_long: Position at up in degrees West
ch_lat: 1st Loran channel (ODFW only)
ch_long: 2nd Loran channel (ODFW only)
msec_lat: milliseconds from 1st Loran channel (ODFW only)
msec_long: milliseconds from 2nd Loran channel (ODFW only)
block: Block Number of 10 x 10 minute block (CDFW, ODFW only) (Supplied for most records by CDFW, only for a few by ODFW.)
block_or: Block number of 5 x 5 minute block system (ODFW only)
area: State area ID
ps_mgmt_area: Puget Sound management area (WDFW only)
ps_grnd_code: Puget Sound ground code (WDFW only)
arid_psmfc: PSMFC area ID (If not supplied, will be filled from reported block during load to PacFIN database.)
