The PacFIN database will be migrated to a new server on Wednesday, June 1st. We estimate that the database will be unavailable from 6 AM to 10 AM. During this time the PacFIN website will be available, but access to the database will be unavailable. Users accessing data through Answers, APEX or Explorer should not be impacted by the downtime.
NMFS has released the 2016 harvest specifications and allocations for Pacific whiting.
- Tribal Allocation: 64,322 mt
- Research and Bycatch set-aside: 1,500 mt
- Harvest Guideline (HG): 301,73 1 mt
Allocation of the HG are as follows :
- Catcher/Processor Coop Program: 102,589 mt (34%)
- Mothership Coop Program: 72,415 mt (24%)
- Shorebased IFQ Program: 126,727.11 mt (42%)
The final rule will be published on May 16th, 2016 (Link).

The sablefish primary season opens April 1st at noon. The 2016 tier limits in round weight are:
Tier 1 = 45,053 lbs
Tier 2 = 20,479 lbs
Tier 3 = 11,702 lbs

The NOAA Northwest Fisheries Science Center, a partner of PacFIN, recently released a web based tool to help investigate the economic effects of the West Coast Groundfish Trawl Catch Share Program (IFQ) on communities and vessels. The initial report examines vessel level data and uses data from PacFin as well as from surveys. There are plans for subsequent reports and tools to further explore the data.
